We care about education. We are actively engaged in STEM outreach activities to K-12 students, especially to underrepresented groups. We also encourage undergraduate students to participate in research.

A large group of NC State freshmen who are interested in infrastructure for the future the Mann Hall, the home of the Department of CCEE. Dr. Han presented CARL's latest research projects on construction automation through advances in sensing, data analytics, and robotics.

Summer 2019 – A High School Intern This Summer
We are happy to have Sohum Rampal, a high school intern from Green Hope HS. He will work with Khashayar and Mojtaba this summer in our lab.

Khashayar greeted a high school visitor at CFL by demonstrating his research on autonomous vehicles for construction performance monitoring.

September 20, 2018 – Smart, Safe, and Sustainable Infrastructure Open House at CCEE
A large group of NC State freshmen who are interested in Smart, Safe, and Sustainable Infrastructure and related research projects visited the Mann Hall, the home of the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) at NC State. Dr. Han presented CARL's latest research projects on sensing, data analytics, and robotics for making construction processes "smarter."

June 11, 2018 – Burroughs Wellcome Research Experience / NC-MSEN Pre-College Program
Two outstanding rising seniors from Broughton high school joined CARL for a month. They will work on a network analysis project that examines how multiple teams interact with each other when working on an integrated robotics system. This integrated robot was a class project in Dr. Han's CE/CS/ECE 592, co-taught by Drs. Edgar Lobaton and Matt Wu.

May 30, 2018 – Construction Roundtable with Local Leaders from CAGC and CMAA at NC State
17 local industry leaders from CAGC and CMAA visited the Construction faculty at NC State to talk about industry needs and pain points. This event was an effort to better serve our industry through improved education and research.

April 20, 2018 – Presenting Construction Engineering Research at EB Oval Broundbreaking Ceremony
More than hundred alumni who are leaders of the construction industry visited NC State to celebrate the construction of our new home - Fitts-Woodlard. Dr. Han and his students presented our work.

Dr. Han and his students greeted prospect undergraduate students and their families to learn about our exciting engineering research activities and latest technologies - i.e., unmanned vehicles on construction sites, BIM technologies, etc.

Dr. Han presented CARL's latest research projects on sensing, data analytics, and robotics for making construction processes "smarter."

July 24-26, 2017 – North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics
A group of high school students from NCSSM visited CCEE for three days. CARL showcased a ground robot for construction monitoring and eye-tracking glasses and a VR headset for construction safety managment.

June 14, 2017 – Johnson C. Smith University
A group of school students from the College of STEM at Johnson C. Smith University (an HBCU in Charlotte, NC) visited NC State. Dr. Han presented CARL's latest research projects on visual data analytics and robotics for automating construction.
Idris and Khashayar, members of CARL, had a great lunch and shared their research experience with JCSU students.

May 4, 2017 – Middle and High School Engineering Open House at NC State
Husky (an autonomous ground robot jointly developed by CARL, AROS, iVMCL and CE/ECE592 students) greeted local middle and high students.


April 28, 2017 – Univision – Professores y Alumnos de Carolina del Norte Presentan un Robot para Sitios de Construcción
Univision, a Spanish TV network, came to CFL on Centennial Campus to broadcast an autonomous ground robot, that is developed by students in CE/ECE592 (jointly taught by Dr. Han, Dr. Edgar Lobaton, and Dr. Tianfu (Matt) Wu), to the Hispanic community.
