The Construction Automation and Robotics Lab (CARL) focuses on creating and validating new computer vision and machine learning analytics that leverage emerging and often already existing visual data (i.e., images, videos, and point cloud data), wearable sensory data (i.e., eye-tracking and multimodal wearables), and Building Information Modeling (BIM) for effective construction project controls, enhanced site-to-office and office-to-site communication, safety and hazard recognition, and safety training and monitoring. We also focus on robotics for automating management of civil infrastructure systems (subtopics to include autonomous navigation for data collection and analytics) and developing and applying new project-based learning concepts to engineering courses.
